Discover the story behind Notes From A Sharp Pen

This blog was born from a desire to organize my thoughts and ideas more thoroughly. As a mom of four girls, I can sometimes (often) loose track of what I learned or gleaned from different conversations and books. I also want to leave something for my daughters to refer to when I am gone.  I tease them often that I will live to be 100 years old but if, in the sovereign plan of God, that does not happen, I want to leave a reference for them to use in those times of forgetfulness.  If this is helpful to others, I am thankful to be of service. May we seek to glorify God in all things as we sharpen each other and walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called.

My Journey in Faith and Family

A Brief Introduction

Everyone has a story, the things that shape our lives and make us who we are. Knowing a little bit about my story will help you understand the reasons behind my blog posts.

I grew up in the rural mountains of Maine as a homeschooler in a christian family. My parents have 6 children, my three older brothers, myself, my younger brother, and last but not least, my sister. When I was eight years old, my parents decided to move us to Los Angeles, and that decision had a huge impact on my little world. We lived in California for four years and then escaped to Indiana. Indiana is truly my home and though it took some time to get here, I am thankful to be raising my girls here.

When we moved to Indiana, I was almost twelve years old and I thought I had things figured out. That first year in Indiana brought even bigger changes than moving to LA. In that year, I was abused by a family member; my “favorite” brother graduated high school and moved out; my best friend decided to drop me for new friends; and before I knew it, my world had collapsed around me. More importantly, I came to a true understanding of my sin, God’s grace and forgiveness, and my need for a Savior. God used that pain and suffering to show me that my “faith” in Jesus wasn’t mine at all. Like many children raised in a “Christian home” I had been parroting my parent’s faith. I was just along for the ride. I had never needed to depend on Jesus in real life. I had been content with friends, family and routine. I was just a kid having fun and enjoying my life. When I realized that I did not have the peace that surpasses understanding, I knew I needed to repent. In my darkest time, I saw my need of a Savior who could understand my weakness and would save me from my sin. Ephesians 2:8-10 says it most clearly, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

God is so patient and kind. Since that year, I have been through many ups and downs. God has always been faithful to sustain me and encourage me through the seasons of my life. I want to this blog to be a reminder for myself and others of all that He has taught me, and all that He is still doing in my life.
